Ein Videoarchiv von Sonya Schönberger und dem Stadtmuseum Berlin
Interviews mit Berliner*innen seit 2018
In Kooperation mit dem Stadtmuseum Berlin hat die Künstlerin Sonya Schönberger das Berliner Zimmer entwickelt: ein interaktives, seit 2018 fortlaufendes wachsendes Archiv aus Videointerviews mit Berliner*innen ganz unterschiedlicher Herkunft, Hintergründe und Generationen. Sie sprechen an von ihnen selbst gewählten Orten von ihrer Biografie und dem, was sie aktuell bewegt. Die Klammer ist die Stadt, in der sie leben. Die Geschichten der Menschen und die Einblicke in die unterschiedlichen Orte transportieren nicht nur den Zeitgeist, sondern es werden auch solche Themen und zeitrelevante Fragen festgehalten, die zeigen, wer „wir“ zu diesem spezifischen Zeitpunkt an diesem spezifischen Ort sind. Dem zugrunde liegt die Überzeugung, dass das große Ganze sich im Kleinen widerspiegeln und hier auf eine ganz intime und empathische Weise bewusst gemacht werden kann. Mit den Videointerviews entsteht eine Sammlung der Gegenwart, in der Stadtgeschichte durch das Mittel der Erzählung weitergegeben wird.
Für die Videos gibt es keinen vorgegebenen Ablaufplan; sie entwickeln sich je nach Gesprächssituation und –thema und haben unterschiedliche Längen zwischen 15 und 45 Minuten. Die geschnittenen Videos, wie auch das Rohmaterial der Gespräche werden sind Teil der Sammlung des Stadtmuseum Berlin.
Das Berliner Zimmer hat bislang kooperiert mit dem Deutschen Werkbund Berlin, der alpha nova & galerie futura und dem KAHO – Raum für Kultur. Außerdem wurde es 2022 im Rahmen des Stipendiums »Modul D – Digitale Vermittlungsformate« gefördert, durch die BKM, NEUSTART KULTUR und den Deutschen Künstlerbund.

Interviews with Berliners since 2018
In cooperation with the Stadtmuseum Berlin, visual artist Sonya Schönberger has developed the Berliner Zimmer: an interactive, growing archive of video interviews with Berliners of different origins, backgrounds and generations, which has been running since 2018. The people interviewed talk about their biographies and what currently moves them. The videos are shot at locations of their choice. The city in which we live holds the archive together. The stories of the people and the insights into different realms not only convey the spirit of the times, but also capture topics and time-relevant questions that show who “we” are at this specific time in this specific place. Underlying this is the belief that the big picture is reflected in the small and can be made aware in a very intimate and empathetic way. With the video interviews, a collection of the present is created, in which urban history is passed on through the means of narration.
There is no predetermined schedule for the videos; they evolve according to the interview situation and topic, and vary in length from 15 to 45 minutes. The edited videos, as well as the raw material of the conversations, are part of the collection of the Stadtmuseum Berlin.
